Re: following up

Re: following up

mmmmm, Arielle, it was questions, not feedback. Who did you forward it to? Just curious.

So what is your answer to my question to you? My question to you was:
“Arielle, are you now aware of the policy of providing upon request the contact information of the local sponsor /producer of a show on B-TV?”

In Freedom,
Frank Moore

Your question has been noted and forwarded to the appropriate personnel.

Thanks.

I am confused, Arielle. Who are you forwarding my email to and why? Who are “the appropriate personnel?” if you mean David, my email was addressed also to him. So you don’t need to forward it to him. If you mean someone else, who is that?

And in terms of my question to you… “Arielle, are you now aware of the policy of providing upon request the contact information of the local sponsor /producer of a show on B-TV?”… Aren’t you the appropriate personnel to answer that question. After all, obviously you know if you are now aware if there is or is not such a policy now in place. It is only natural for you in your position to find out if there in fact is such a policy once the question arose… If only to know what to do.

So I am confused because I could take your non-response as being rude and trying to stonewall. But why should you do that to someone who has been producing /sponsoring shows and series for /on B-TV for many years, who has been donating to BCM for years, who is a BCM member, and who more importantly is a resident of the Berkeley community of which B-TV is the local public access channel and which BCM is supposed to serve. So I am confused by how hard it is to get answers. I thought the goal was to be transparent, to serve the Berkeley community in general.

it may be unfair to dump all of this on you when nobody there so far has been forth coming. But you are the one there who is the contact for the producers… And the one who refused to give contact information of the local sponsors of shows. Such secrecy is extremely disturbing in a public organization, and especially in a LOCAL public access station! So I hope we will get answers soon… And the list of local sponsors.

Hey, tomorrow i am shooting the first episode in my series about public access!

Adult Content on East Side Program

Hi Corey,

I received notice that part 1 of the East Side Program that aired today at 3:30pm has adult content in the first 2 minutes. I am happy to air your program, but only after 10pm, if the adult content remains. If you would like it to air the program before 10pm, please remove the adult content and resubmit it for broadcast.

Sincerely,

Ok, Arielle, please do continue to air the program, after 10pm. Could you send us an updated schedule when you have it? Thanks!

— Corey

* * * * *

Sure.

It will next air Thursday 8/7 at 10pm. 🙂 Do the other episodes have the same content at the beginning? If so, BCM will air each episode Thursdays at 10pm throughout August. I can also air another episode at 10:30pm if you’d like (on those Thursdays). Just let me know.

Arielle

I am sorry about that, Arielle. I meant it to be marked “adult content” for some of the photos in the opening and some of the language. But it slipped through! well it just shows people are watching! but we will be more careful.

And I would like it to be played one episode per week. Thanks!

Fw: Drop off policy

Corey,

The 5 DVD per producer policy has not been strictly enforced yet as we have been working on a new system that will revamp how programming is picked up and dropped off for all producers. The new system was created by the executive director after I spoke with him about how some of the BOFM DVDs have gone missing. I will be emailing the mailing list shortly with more details about the new pickup/drop off procedure with programming. I hope it will make you more comfortable about dropping off shows.

However, please keep in mind that BCM is not responsible for the loss of any programming.

From the policies:

“Please do not submit any master tapes/DVDs for playback. BCM will not be responsible for damage to and/or removal of any media submitted.”

I hope this answers your questions. As always, you can email the executive
director for any more details regarding the matter.

Best,
Arielle

Suzy, this is what we are dealing with here! I have been doing shows on B-TV for over seven years. Until last year no show tapes were lost. Since then [about the time Arielle came to B-TV] at least four shows were lost [not counting the shows that were finally found]! And now they have come up with this “policy ” of non- responsibility!

following up

hi, Arielle and David! Arielle, are you now aware of the policy of providing upon request the contact information of the local sponsor /producer of a show on B-TV?

David, thanks for saying you will provide us with the contact information of the local sponsor producer of those shows. I’m eager to get the list. Is it true that an “imported” show/series [not produced by a Berkeley resident] still is required to be sponsored by a Berkeley resident? Is there any limit on how many shows one Berkeley resident can sponsor at one time?

thanks!

Re: sponsors of non-locally produced shows on BTV (Susan Block)

What’s wrong with knowing “who sponsors what show” or “who produces what show”? Why don’t they want to share that info? Aren’t producers proud of the shows they sponsor or produce? I don’t get it….

Peace through pleasure

Ah, well, Suzy, this may be a long story. So sit back!

As you know, they have invented a whole bunch of new rules at B-TV. These rules are designed to discourage local Berkeley residents who are not members of the Berkeley Community Media. So this makes B-TV a private channel. Partly these rules were designed to knock me off the channel as much as possible. But they have wider effects beyond me.

Now you have to be a BCM member to have a series on B-TV [$60 a year!]. Non- member residents now are barred from having a series. I don’t know if non- members can still sponsor series. We are checking on that. But using their “logic“, I doubt it.

Well, I just checked and non- member residents now cannot sponsor a series. They have excluded at least 99% of the Berkeley residents! This is simply not right! This is simply not local public access any more!

Non- member residents can still submit shows to be aired… But now it is $5 a single show! It used to be any resident could air a tape, produce or sponsor a series… All for free. I never had been a member. I am now! But they still discriminate against me because I don’t use their studio. I think the studio is the heart of the problem because they justify their existence, and getting money, on running the studio, instead of on the maintaining of the local public access channel for the residents to air their shows.

That is one aspect of it. But they also want to get LOCAL PUBLIC out of local public access! For years they have wanted to limit my presence on B-TV. The nudity and eroticism were handy excuses… which ultimately didn’t work in getting me and you off the channel. But I think the core reason was I was giving a stage to a wide range of voices from the community … Like what public access should do. It showed what they were not doing. The tag line of my Unlimited Possibilities show is YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU WILL JUMP INTO! “ or where… or who/what you will see! Unlike BCM, we went into the community! For years I said I should not be able to have so much air time. There should be a lot more local programs. I always said I would be happy to lose some of my time slots to new local shows.

And then they started coming up with new rules which made it harder and harder for me to keep most of my shows. These rules also took away the control over the show content from the resident producers… Bullshit rules restricting how many times in a day someone can “host” shows on B-TV and what percentage of your show MUST be “new” and what is “new”. All such restrictions of show content are illegal. There are ways to do what appeared to be the goals of the rules and not violate the content. For example, they could say an episode can be only aired again six months after it has been previously aired.

But it has become obvious that the real goal of the rules is the control over the content of the channel. One puzzle was how they were going to fill all those empty time slots that the new rules created. There were no new local shows to fill all those empty time slots. Then they sent out a email promoting a national web site for high end public access shows from all over the country. Then high end public access shows from all over the country [old shows] started showing up on B-TV! But the rules state non- local shows must have local sponsors! Now we have gotten to the answer to your question. They probably don’t have local sponsors for these shows [about 14]! So they are stone-walling! It is much easier for them to pick shows from that web site than having to deal with the local community producers!

We have to make it impossible for them to hijack our channel!

Frank Moore
