The Sculptor and the Musician (III)

I'll come back, I said,
as a small flower,
probably yellow,
probably in Oregon
probably in the woods,
probably underneath a clump
of moss and pine needles
probably surrounded by thick brush
and no pathway
probably no human footprints
should you think
to look for me
probably there are rabbits
many birds and
sometimes deer
and woodpeckers, tap tap tapping
to remind me of the chisel
and the mallet

probably high in the mountain
near the skyline
where the tall trees grow

a small flower
probably yellow
probably never lonely
